The season is starting MUCH earlier than last year. I drove all the way in with no problems, except a large tree has fallen across the road early on. Someone had cut enough of it out that I could sneak by. Wylie and I got a fair amount done and still got back in time for a birthday party. We took down a couple of the plywood sheets covering windows and while moving materials outside so we could work on the inside we discovered that a marmot had taken up residence. See the video below.
The goal for this year is to have the cabin enclosed and winterized by this fall. The specific things that must be done are: (1) Put in a floor, which will be wood with concrete pads for a post and the stove; (2) Close in the gables; (3) Install the windows and door; (4) Install the solar systems, both water and electrical; and (5) Install the stove. Jason Heath is going to help with the stove installation and he asked for photos of where it will go, which are shown below. The stove will be along the front wall between the door and large window, pretty much directly below the ridge pole, which means we will probably have to bend the chimney.
Wylie and I loaded up the solar array into the pickup and installed it on it’s cement-filled, steel post mount. When we connected the solar panels to the control box it turned on right away. I could hear the pump running when I went to the spring box.
The spring was running much, much slower than last year, which is concerning. There is a nice flow going now, but it will be interesting to see how it holds up this year.
To make sure the pump was working correctly, we went up to the cistern to make sure it was being filled. As you can tell from the video below, it was filling nicely.
The view from the cabin is still quite acceptable!
Alright !
