I’m easing into the summer season, hoping that by this winter Skookum will be not just habitable, but comfortable. At the moment, it’s off to a slow start. The old Toyota just barely made it to Skookum today, and I had to wait about 15 minutes at the base of the last climb to let it cool down. Progress has been fairly slow as I work up the courage to dive into the remaining electrical work — and more worrisome — plumbing…
Mattias joined Wylie and me for a day. We got some chinking done plus we sawed out and removed a log that had fallen across the road. I just can’t help but include another view of the Shield’s valley.
When we were getting ready to remove the log, the most amazing thing happened — the chainsaw started right up! Wylie and Mattias made short work of clearing the road after the chainsaw work.
On a second trip, Caz joined us to work on chinking. They made a pretty good team, with Wylie running the caulk gun and Caz smoothing the chink. I followed up with cleanup. Between the previous trip with Mattias and this trip with Caz, we got much of the cabin chinked.
Above is a photo of the chinked west wall (or at least most of it). It came out great.
Caz and Wylie did find some time to create mud.
During the last trip covered by this post, Wylie and I put up some Tongue & Groove on the outside of Skookum. The above picture shows Wylie putting in a panel.
It may not look like much, but it’s progress. Much of the Tongue & Groove is installed over the front door. Additionally, we fixed the roof to the outhouse (so that was HUGE!) and I sanitized the cistern and spring box with bleach.
