Progress has been slow this summer. Lately there has been bad smoke and schedules just haven’t worked out. However some inching along continues and I am hopeful for a big push in September when Mark is going to join me.
One bay of the porch roof now has tongue and groove installed, making for a nice finish. The tongue and groove has been sitting around for a couple of years now, so many boards are warped and it was difficult getting it installed. The left photo shows the porch ceiling before and the right photo shows the porch ceiling after installation.
It has been hot and dry, so the fire danger is high. This finally got me to work on an idea to reduce the fire danger. By running soaker hose across the top logs of the cabin, I can soak the outside walls of the cabin. I have ordered a valve that can (supposedly) be turned off and off remotely, so if a fire is in the area I can switch on the water when needed.
Although we have not made much progress on the cabin, we have done some fly fishing on small streams around Bozeman. Sometimes, this necessarily requires a cool dip on a hot day, as demonstrated by Wylie above.
Maintaining my reputatation as an annoying parent, I thought I would throw in a picture of Wylie with one of his “larger” catches. Actually, we have mostly done quite well, but there’s no need to stoke the child’s ego…
We have also stained and coated another batch of tongue and groove boards, enough to finish roughly half of the remaining work. Another round of finishing will deplete all the tongue and groove that might actually complete the job.
Additionally, the steel for the shed roof has been hauled to the site and was stacked with only one substantial cut to my leg — better than expected!
