We had a very short week, as Logan needed a break and headed to Alabama for a long weekend. For the 2+ days we worked, we made good progress. Things will get exciting as we will (hopefully) soon start on the roof.
We quickly finished up the last two walls to complete the fourth round of logs all the way around. Sadly — and I’m most embarrassed about this — we needed to lower a corer by 3/4″ and with my clever and confused calculations, I lowered it over 4″. Figuring out how to fix this blunder will be key as we finish out rounds five and six.
The weather moved in a bit, with a cold rain and then some cool weather. It didn’t really stop us, but it’s a hint at what’s coming in September.
We were treated to a full moon with clouds stripping across, a nice view as we kept the fire going to fight the cold.
We got the 5th log up on the West side and one of the logs on the East side is almost ready for a fit check. Later, Wylie, a couple of his friends, and Meg came up to see the progress. Wylie has been working on a fort and they added some old plywood for a roof and used some bark for gutters. It should hold until the next breeze comes along.
Summary
The biggest error was totally botching a scribe, which resulted in one corner being 4 inches low at the 4th row. Sorting out how to fix this (plus beating my head against a wall) will require some time.
Good news is that we’re moving much faster and getting nice fits (even if scribed incorrectly). A few more days and we’ll be on to the 6th row, which means we’ll be putting up plate logs and sorting out trusses. As with all the other parts, this is a new thing for us, so it’ll be interesting.
Mark will be coming to help as we get going on the roof. That will add some spice and discussion…

I take no responsibility. I am simply driving Mark to the airport.

I doubt it. I’m sure its Elaine’s fault!
